A few drops is all it takes. Essential oil is the longest-lasting way to scent a home — no flame, no mist, just warmth that builds through the afternoon and settles into the room. These three cover the whole range of a fall evening: the spice, the wood, and the citrus that keeps them from going heavy.

What's inside — three 2 oz amber glass bottles:

• Pumpkin Spice — real cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and ginger, blended by hand. The smell of a kitchen mid-bake.
• Cedarwood — distilled from Eastern redcedar grown on our own farm. Dry, woody, and grounding.
• Sweet Orange — bright, clean citrus. Lifts the other two and works on its own in a morning kitchen.

No pumpkin actually smells like "pumpkin spice" — the scent comes from the spice blend, and ours uses the real thing.

Why these three

They're chosen to layer. Pumpkin spice on its own is the classic; add a drop of sweet orange and it brightens into something closer to a spiced cider. Cedarwood underneath either one grounds the whole blend and keeps it from reading sweet. Three bottles, and you can build a different autumn every evening.

A few ways to use them:

• Add a few drops to a diffuser to fill a room
• Blend with a carrier oil for a grounding personal or massage oil
• Add to a homemade room or linen spray
• Drop into a simmer pot with orange peel and water
• A drop on a wool dryer ball for scented linens
